Armadillidium klugii "Slano" Isopod Care Guide

Armadillidium klugii "Slano" is a stunning variety of the well-loved "Clown" isopods, known for their soft gray bodies with distinct red and white markings. They are moderately hardy and make an excellent display species for both hobbyists and collectors.

Enclosure:
Use a well-ventilated container with a substrate mix of flake soil, leaf litter, and sphagnum moss. Provide plenty of cork bark, stacked bark pieces, and hides—this species enjoys secure spaces but will also be active on the surface once established.

Temperature & Humidity:
Maintain temperatures between 70-75°F. "Slano" prefers moderate humidity (60-70%) with a clear moisture gradient—keep one side moist and the other slightly drier to allow them to self-regulate.

Feeding:
Feed a base of decaying leaf litter and soft hardwoods. Supplement with high-quality isopod diet, fish flakes, shrimp pellets, and occasional fresh vegetables or fruit. Protein helps maintain strong growth and coloration.

Behavior:
"Slano" isopods can be shy when first introduced but will become more active as the colony matures. They breed at a steady, moderate pace and are a fantastic choice for display-focused enclosures or as part of a specialty collection.
