Porcellio scaber "Red Edge" Isopod Care Guide

Porcellio scaber "Red Edge" is a striking morph of Porcellio scaber, known for its dark body with vivid red or orange edging along the segments. Like other scaber morphs, it is hardy, fast-breeding, and excellent for both bioactive enclosures and eye-catching display colonies.

Enclosure:
Provide a well-ventilated container with a substrate of flake soil, sphagnum moss, and plenty of leaf litter. Add cork bark and bark pieces for hiding and surface activity. "Red Edge" enjoys surface exploration and will utilize climbing structures.

Temperature & Humidity:
Maintain temperatures between 70-78°F. "Red Edge" prefers moderate humidity (60-70%) with a moisture gradient—one side moist, one side drier. Good airflow keeps the enclosure healthy and prevents mold.

Feeding:
Feed a base of decaying leaf litter and soft hardwoods. Supplement regularly with isopod diet, fish flakes, shrimp pellets, and fresh vegetables or fruit. Protein enhances breeding and helps maintain vibrant coloration.

Behavior:
"Red Edge" isopods are bold, active, and very fast breeders. They adapt well to a wide range of conditions and are perfect for bioactive tanks, cleanup crews, or as an attractive display species for all levels of isopod keepers.
