Armadillidium granulatum "Granulated" Isopod Care Guide

Armadillidium granulatum, known as "Granulated," is a beautiful European species with a distinct bumpy (granulated) texture and often soft pastel coloration. It is a moderately hardy species that makes an excellent display isopod for both collectors and experienced hobbyists.

Enclosure:
Provide a well-ventilated container with a substrate of flake soil, sphagnum moss, and plenty of leaf litter. Add lots of cork bark and stacked bark pieces for hiding and climbing. They appreciate a structured environment with both cover and open space.

Temperature & Humidity:
Maintain temperatures between 70-75°F. "Granulated" prefers moderate humidity (60-70%) with a well-defined moisture gradient—one side moist, one side drier. Good airflow is important for this species.

Feeding:
Feed a staple of decaying leaf litter and soft hardwoods. Supplement with isopod diet, fish flakes, shrimp pellets, and occasional vegetables or fruit. A varied diet helps bring out their soft coloration and supports steady breeding.

Behavior:
"Granulated" isopods are moderately active and breed at a steady pace once established. They are somewhat shy at first but become more visible as the colony matures. A beautiful choice for display-focused collections!
