Porcellio dilatatus "Giant Canyon Rust" Isopod Care Guide

Porcellio dilatatus "Giant Canyon Rust" is a colorful morph of the popular Giant Canyon isopod, known for its rich rust-orange tones and large size. Just as hardy and prolific as the standard form, it’s an excellent choice for display colonies and bioactive setups.

Enclosure:
Provide a well-ventilated container with a substrate of flake soil, sphagnum moss, and leaf litter. Include lots of cork bark, bark flats, and rocks for hiding and climbing. This large species loves surface activity and will explore both horizontal and vertical spaces.

Temperature & Humidity:
Maintain temperatures between 72-78°F. "Giant Canyon Rust" prefers moderate humidity (65-75%) with a clear moisture gradient—one side moist, one side drier. Good airflow prevents excess moisture buildup.

Feeding:
Feed a staple of decaying leaf litter and soft hardwoods. Supplement regularly with isopod diet, fish flakes, shrimp pellets, and fresh vegetables or fruit. Occasional protein encourages strong growth and breeding.

Behavior:
"Giant Canyon Rust" isopods are bold, fast breeders, and very active. They tolerate a wide range of conditions, making them a fantastic cleanup crew or a striking display species thanks to their large size and beautiful coloration.
