Armadillidium gestroi Isopod Care Guide

Armadillidium gestroi is a striking isopod species known for its beautiful yellow striping on a dark background. This is a moderately hardy species that thrives in display enclosures and is a favorite among collectors.

Enclosure:
Provide a well-ventilated container with a substrate of flake soil, sphagnum moss, and leaf litter. Include plenty of cork bark, stacked bark pieces, and rockwork for hiding and climbing. Gestroi appreciate both secure spaces and open areas to explore.

Temperature & Humidity:
Maintain temperatures between 70-75°F. Gestroi prefers moderate humidity (60-70%) with a clear moisture gradient—one side moist, one side drier. Good airflow helps prevent excess moisture buildup.

Feeding:
Feed a staple of decaying leaf litter and soft hardwoods. Supplement regularly with isopod diet, fish flakes, shrimp pellets, and occasional fruits or vegetables. Protein helps enhance growth and coloration.

Behavior:
Armadillidium gestroi is moderately active and will become more surface-visible as the colony establishes. They breed steadily and thrive in stable, well-maintained enclosures. An excellent choice for display-focused collections.
