Borneo Isopods (Cubaris murina)
Cubaris murina "Borneo" Isopod Care Guide
Cubaris murina "Borneo" is a beautiful regional variant of the hardy Cubaris murina species, known for its subtle coloration and active behavior. This is one of the more beginner-friendly Cubaris and is a great choice for both display colonies and bioactive setups.
Enclosure:
Provide a well-sealed container with adjustable ventilation to maintain high humidity. Use a deep substrate of flake soil mixed with sphagnum moss and plenty of leaf litter. Offer lots of tight hides such as cork bark, stacked bark, or clay pieces to support their natural behaviors.
Temperature & Humidity:
Maintain temperatures between 72-78°F. "Borneo" prefers high humidity (80-90%) with little to no dry zones. Mist regularly to keep humidity stable, but avoid over-saturating the substrate.
Feeding:
Provide a staple of decaying leaf litter and soft hardwoods. Supplement with isopod diet, fish flakes, shrimp pellets, and small amounts of vegetables or fruit. Occasional protein helps promote strong growth and breeding.
Behavior:
"Borneo" isopods are more surface-active than many Cubaris and tend to breed quickly when established. They tolerate a wide range of conditions compared to more sensitive Cubaris, making them excellent for both beginners and seasoned collectors.
