Armadillidium badium 'Castledaccia' "Bumblebee" Isopod Care Guide

Armadillidium badium 'Castledaccia', commonly known as "Bumblebee" isopod, is a beautiful species featuring bold black and yellow striping. It is a moderately hardy species that makes a fantastic display isopod for both collectors and intermediate keepers.

Enclosure:
Provide a well-ventilated container with a substrate mix of flake soil, leaf litter, and sphagnum moss. Offer plenty of cork bark, bark flats, and stacked hides. Bumblebee isopods enjoy both secure hiding spots and open areas for surface activity.

Temperature & Humidity:
Maintain temperatures between 70-75°F. "Bumblebee" prefers moderate humidity (60-70%) with a well-defined moisture gradient. One side should be moist, the other drier, so they can self-regulate.

Feeding:
Feed a base of decaying leaf litter and soft hardwoods. Supplement with isopod diet, fish flakes, shrimp pellets, and occasional vegetables or fruit. Protein supplementation helps support healthy growth and breeding.

Behavior:
"Bumblebee" isopods are moderately active and tend to be more visible than many Armadillidium species once established. They breed at a moderate pace and thrive in stable, well-maintained enclosures. An excellent choice for display colonies!
